Psychosis, Loneliness and Identity
Report of the Dutch ISPS Conference on March 15th 2010 in the National Museum of Psychiatry, 75 participants
"No career hunting, just quality, and people curious listening to each other." In this way Arend Jan Heerma van Voss, former chief editor of the Dutch Journal of Mental Health characterized our conference.
The main purpose of the conference was to organize a meeting between researchers of different lines, clinicians and consumers: Inez Myin-Germeys, she does prospective research on which adolescents of a total population become psychotic later, Anna Lichtwarck-Aschoff she is an expert on normal adolescent development and researched quarrels between mothers an daughters and the effect on identity, David Fowler, who researches the cognitions on self and others of people who were psychotic, Rudy Vanderborre an analytic clinician who works with disturbed adolescents and Wouter Kusters, linguist and philosopher, who experienced psychosis himself. The conference was attended mainly by experienced community psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists and nurses working in all kind of settings, most of them busy with implementing good care for psychotic patients. The International Symposium - In 1956 werd voor het eerst een International Symposium for the Psychological treatments for the Schizophrenias and other psychoses georganiseerd door Gaetano Benedetti, en Christian Muller. Sindsdien is dit Symposium ongeveer iedere drie jaar op een steeds wisselende plaats in de wereld gehouden. Zo ontstond een wereldwijd netwerk van psychiaters, psychologen en professionals van andere disciplines, die geïnteresseerd zijn in de psychotherapeutische behandeling van mensen met een psychose. Leden van dit netwerk hebben behandelmethoden ontwikkeld op psychotherapeutische basis voor patiënten met een psychose en veel onderzoek op dit gebied gedaan. Zo is in de loop van decennia een aanzienlijke hoeveelheid expertise binnen het netwerk ontstaan.
